Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Papillion, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers pitching staff tossed a two-hit shutout and faced two batters over the minimum to send the Oklahoma City to a 5-0 defeat Sunday night at Werner Park.

Kyle Zimmer, Jake Kalish and Richard Lovelady retired 26 of 29 batters in the game, as the Dodgers were shutout for the fifth time this season. Following a one-out single by Cameron Perkins in the first inning, the Omaha pitching staff retired the next 15 Dodgers in a row and 25 of the final 26 OKC batters.

Zimmer handled the first two innings before turning things over to Jake Kalish. After allowing seven runs and 11 hits over five innings against OKC in his last outing, Kalish (3-3) did a complete turnaround Sunday night. He threw six scoreless innings and retired 18 of 19 batters faced with seven strikeouts. The lefty began his outing by retiring 11 straight batters before Connor Joe hit a double down the third base line with two outs in the sixth inning. But after that, Kalish retired the next seven batters he faced and combined with Lovelady to retire 10 in a row to finish the game.

For the Dodgers (17-31), it marked the second time in the last five games they were held to two hits or fewer. On May 22 in New Orleans, the Dodgers collected just one hit for the first time in nearly five years.

The Dodgers' best chance to score was in the first inning. Zach Reks drew a walk with one out and advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch. Perkins then singled into right field and Reks attempted to score, but Reks was thrown out at the plate by Bubba Starling.

The Storm Chasers (22-28) broke the scoreless stalemate in the third inning. Brett Phillips drew a leadoff walk and scored on a RBI double by Jecksson Flores. Two batters later, Cheslor Cuthbert sent a line drive homer into the left field bleachers to make it 3-0.

Omaha added another run in the fourth inning when Erick Mejia drew a walk with the bases loaded. Dodgers pitcher Daniel Corcino followed by getting a popout and forceout to limit the damage and keep the deficit at 4-0.

A sacrifice fly by Jorge Bonifacio in the sixth inning extended Omaha's lead to 5-0.

OKC pitcher Tony Gonsolin returned from the Injured List to game action for the first time since April 13 and threw a scoreless first inning. Corcino (3-2) followed and pitched the next five frames, but he had a tough night, allowing five runs, eight hits and five walks to take the loss. The walk total was his highest since April 20, 2014 and most by a Dodgers pitcher this season.

The OKC pitching staff combined for seven walks and just two strikeouts. Entering Sunday, they had recorded at least six strikeouts in each game this season.

The Dodgers and Storm Chasers will play a doubleheader Monday afternoon beginning at 12:05 p.m. in order to make up a game postponed April 11. Each game is scheduled for seven innings. Live coverage begins 15 minutes before first pitch on AM 1340 "The Game," 1340thegame.com and through the free iHeartRadio or MiLB First Pitch apps.
