Idaho Steelheads News Release
BOISE, Idaho - Diamond Sports Management announced today that it has sold its assets to Idaho Sports Properties, LLC, the Idaho Steelheads ownership group. The purchase will allow the Steelheads to transition to an in-house management structure for the team.
"It is with great pride that we are able to help Idaho Sports Properties take management of the team in-house," said Bill Waller, President of Diamond Sports Management and member of the Idaho Sports Properties ownership group.
In just nine years, since the team's inception and seven years since they first took the ice in 1997, the Idaho Steelheads have become one of the premier professional hockey franchises in North America both on and off the ice.
"Diamond Sports has been a great partner to the Steelheads," said A.J. Balukoff member of Idaho Sports Properties managing board. "It is their hard work and success that gives us a platform upon which to build."
As part of the transition, Waller has been hired as a consultant and will continue to work with sponsors and business partners. He will retain his ownership interest in Idaho Sports Properties.
Diamond Sports Management's key employees Senior Vice President Eric Trapp and Vice President Mike DiPalma have been hired by the Idaho Steelheads. John Cunningham, Vice President of Business Operations for the Steelheads, will be responsible for day-to-day operations and represent the team on the ECHL Board of Governors.
Diamond Sports Management has managed the team since the inaugural season in 1997. Under their management the team has received several league awards, including: WCHL Organization of the Year, WCHL Executives of the Year, ECHL Marketing Executives of the Year, WCHL Coach of the Year, WCHL Founders Cup Champions and ECHL Kelly Cup Champions. The team has also been voted: Best Local Sports Team, Best Sports Event to Attend, Best Sporting Event and Best of Boise by area fans.
