Albany Devils News Release
NEWARK, N.J. - Nick Palmieri scored twice, including the game-winner with 59.3 seconds left in regulation, to help the Lowell Devils defeat the Hartford Wolf Pack, 3-2, at the Prudential Center. In its first-ever regular season game at the home of their NHL affiliate, the New Jersey Devils, Lowell beat Hartford for the first time this season and pulled into second place in the Atlantic Division.
After the Wolf Pack had battled back from a 2-0 deficit at the beginning of the third, Palmieri streaked down the right wing and sent a wrist shot along the ice that sneaked through the pads of Steve Valiquette. Tim Sestito gathered his second assist of the game on Palmieri's team-leading 14th goal of the season.
The two teams entered the second in a scoreless tie, but the Devils' league-leading power play would go to work early in the period to put Lowell up by one. Matt Taormina's wrist shot from the point ricocheted off a skate and over the shoulder of Valiquette at 2:37. Four minutes later, Palmieri sailed in his first of the night from the far point for a 2-0 Devils lead.
Paul Crowder cut the Devils' lead in half at 3:15 of the third when he dug the puck from a scrum in front of the Lowell net and banged it past Jeff Frazee. The Wolf Pack evened the score at 6:43 as Dale Weise stationed himself atop of the crease to redirect Ilkka Heikkinen's pass from the blueline inside the near post.
Frazee made 28 saves for his eighth win of the season. The Devils' penalty kill was a perfect 7-for-7 on the night.
The Lowell Devils continue on to battle the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Saturday, January 8 at 7:05PM. Go online to AHLlive.com to listen or watch all of the live Devils action. For tickets to Lowell Devils home games, call (978) 458-PUCK (7825) or visit lowelldevilshockey.com.
