Houston Aeros News Release
CEDAR PARK, Texas - D Ivan Vishnevskiy scored the overtime game-winner with 38.2 seconds left on the clock as the Houston Aeros (18-15-5-1) dropped their third overtime decision in their last four games 3-2 to the Texas Stars (21-11-2-4) Wednesday in front of 4,927 at the Cedar Park Center. Forwards Jon DiSalvatore and Duncan Milroy scored in regulation for the Aeros and G Anton Khudobin made 20 saves in the loss, extending his winless streak to nine games. Former Aero G Matt Climie stopped 19 of 21 shots on goal to earn his 10th win of the season.
The Aeros jumped on top with a pair of goals in the first period. DiSalvatore directed a slap pass off the stick of D Jamie Fraser out of mid-air beating Climie at 4:08; LW Colton Gillies was credited with the secondary helper. A little under 4:30 later it was Milroy, C Nathan Smith and Gillies working a 3-on-2 break. Smith fired a pass into the crease where Milroy just get enough on the tip to find the netting. Gillies was credited with his second assist of the night giving him his first multi-point game since the season opener in Mantiboa (10/2).
The Stars entered the game 0-for-19 on the power play against Houston this season, but that would change at the 15:15 mark of the first. D Dan Jancevski fired a left point bid into the slot where C Warren Peters would redirect for his team-leading 12th of the year cutting the Houston lead in half.
The second period saw a Match Penalty followed by a second Stars powerplay marker. Khudobin gloved the puck dead at 11:19 and Stars F Mathieu Tousignant gave a wack at his glove. D Maxim Noreau and RW Carson McMillan quickly came to the aid of Khudobin, but McMillan was given a Match Penalty for a late hit on Tousignant. Texas came out with a five minute power-play and with 56 seconds left on the major the Stars converted. C Perttu Lindgren sent the puck on net where Khudobin directed the bid to his left, former Aero RW Mathieu Beaudoin was there for the rebound and sent a diving backhander to the back of the net to tie the game 2-2 at 15:23.
After a scoreless third period the teams headed to overtime for the second time this season where Vishnevskiy would end it. Vishnevskiy took possession at the half wall cutting his way into the slot before beating Khudobin. It's the Aeros third overtime loss in four games.
Texas outshot the Aeros 24-21 on the night and scored twice on the man advantage going 2-for-3. Houston went 0-for-4 on the powerplay.
The Aeros return home for a pair with the Rockford IceHogs Friday and Sunday at Toyota Center. Friday's game time is set for 7:35 PM. Watch the games live on ahllive.com and listen on 1070 AM-KNTH. Follow the interactive in-game blog at aeros.com.
