NORFOLK, Va. - The Lowell Devils rallied from behind in the third period to defeat the Norfolk Admirals, 4-2, on Saturday night at the Norfolk Scope. With the victory, the Devils snapped a four-game losing streak and split the season series with the Admirals, 2-2-0-0.
Going 2-for-6 in the game on the man-advantage, Lowell used its second power goal of the night to knot the score, 2-2, at 8:22. A flurry of shots sent to the net by the Devils were all blocked by the Admirals defense, but Nicklas Bergfors picked up the loose puck in close and sent a backhander inside the far post for his 11th goal of the season.
Jason Ryznar gave Lowell the lead for good with 7:20 left in regulation. Patrick Davis' lob pass sprung Ryznar behind the defense, where his quick snapshot fooled Marc Denis for a 3-2 Devils lead. Ryznar would later assist on Grant Marshall's empty-get goal at 19:38 that clinched the win.
The Devils took an early 1-0 lead after Admirals defenseman Kevin Quick was sent off the ice for hooking in the first four minutes of the game. On the ensuing 5-on-4, Stephen Gionta had his attempt from the hashmarks denied by Denis, but Petr Vrana was left alone to bang home the loose puck at 4:46.
Norfolk came back to tie the score 2:32 into the second period on a Rob Klinkhammer breakaway. Though Klinkhammer was unable to light the lamp on his initial chance, he would get another as he was awarded a penalty shot. Klinkhammer didn't miss on his second opportunity, wristing the puck over the blocker of Frank Doyle.
Brandon Segal gave the Admirals their first lead of the game when he blasted a slapshot from far circle into the top corner at 3:43. Doyle otherwise made 23 saves in the game for his 13th win of the season.
Lowell was 1-for-1 on the penalty kill.
