Providence Bruins News Release
Wilkes-Barre, PA - The Providence Bruins fell to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 3-2 Saturday evening at the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza. The P-Bruins got their goals from Matt Lashoff and Adam McQuaid. The 48-16-3-3 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins are back in action Friday against the Springfield Falcons for Jordan Sigalet Poster Night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center at 7:05 p.m. Providence is now nine points ahead of the second place Hartford Wolf Pack.
The Penguins scored the only goal of the opening period at the 1:50 mark. Former P-Bruin David Gove won the face off in his own zone and sent the puck up ahead to another former P-Bruin Ned Havern, giving Wilkes-Barre a 2-on-1 opportunity. Havern passed the puck to Tim Wallace, who scored his eleventh goal of the season.
In the second period, the Penguins took a 2-0 advantage at the 8:37 mark. Paul Bissonnette took a shot from halfway up the left boards and through a lot of traffic in front of the goal the puck snuck through into the net for his third of the season. Tim Brent and J.M. Daoust recorded the assists. Providence answered back late in the second period. At the 18:03 mark, Chris Collins dropped the puck off to Lashoff at the left point. He skated the puck halfway down the left boards and took a shot then went past Penguins net minder David Brown on the right side and into the net. It was Lashoff's eighth goal of the season and Matt Hendricks picked up the second assist. Thirty seconds later the P-Bruins tied the game at two. From halfway up the right boards McQuaid took a shot and the puck went over the right should of Brown and into the net. It was the rookie defenseman's first goal of the season, while Hendricks and Aaron Slattengren grabbed the assists.
In the third period, the Penguins scored the lone power play goal of the game at the 11:29 mark. Ben Lovejoy tallied his second goal of the season, which turned out to be the game winner, while Tim Brent and Ryan Stone had the assists. Wilke-Barre went on to the 3-2 victory.
Tuukka Rask stopped 17 of 20 shots for the P-Bruins, while Brown made 36 saves for the Penguins. The P-Bruins went 0-for-6 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
The Atlantic Division-leading P-Bruins return to the Dunkin' Donuts Center for three games Friday, March 28 for Jordan Sigalet Poster Night versus the Springfield Falcons at 7:05 p.m., Saturday, March 29 against the Portland Pirates at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday, March 30 versus the Worcester Sharks at 4:05 p.m. Information on P-Bruins individual tickets for the 2007-08 regular season and ticket packages for the 2008 Calder Cup Playoffs can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto the team website at providencebruins.com.
