Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
TORONTO, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs set a franchise record for futility with their ninth straight loss by dropping a 3-1 decision to the Toronto Marlies on Saturday night at Ricoh Coliseum. Hamilton's previous franchise-long losing streak was eight games set on November 6th-to-21st during the 2004-2005 season. The âDogs record now drops to 31-30-3-5 through 69 games on the campaign.
Toronto opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 13:39 of the first period. Brent Aubin and Derrick Walser combined to set up Bates Battaglia's ninth tally of the campaign and give the Marlies a 1-0 lead.
David Ling gave the Marlies a two-goal lead at 3:22 of the second period with his 13th marker of the season. The 2-0 goal was unassisted.
At 7:25 of the middle stanza, Brock Trotter got the Bulldogs on the scoreboard when he took a pass from Conrad Martin, pulled the puck to his forehand and slid home his second goal of the season. Corey Locke also picked up a helper on the 2-1 goal.
The Marlies put the game away at the 15:16 mark of the final frame courtesy of a breakaway goal by Robbie Earl. Aubin fed Earl who walked in and buried a wrist shot over the shoulder of âDogs netminder Cedrick Desjardins to round out the game's scoring at 3-1.
Desjardins stopped 27 of the 30 shots he faced in a losing effort for Hamilton, while Scott Clemmensen made 29 saves on 30 shots to pick up the win for Toronto.
The Bulldogs went 0-for-5 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
