Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, VA - Rob Klinkhammer scored on a penalty shot and Brandon Segal scored his third goal in five games, but the Norfolk Admirals (25-39-2-5) surrendered three unanswered goals in the third period as they fell to the Lowell Devils (22-36-7-4) 4-2 on Saturday night at Norfolk Scope Arena.
The Devils took a 1-0 lead on a power play goal early in first period. Petr Vrana, Lowell's leading scorer, scored off a rebound at 4:46.
The Admirals tied the game with a penalty shot goal early in the second period. Rob Klinkhammer was impeded on a breakaway and awarded a penalty shot at 2:32. Klinkhammer sent a shot top-shelf, stick-side for his twelfth goal of the season.
Norfolk took a 2-1 lead early in the third period. Brandon Segal sent a slap shot from the top of the right faceoff circle that eluded Lowell goaltender Frank Doyle at 3:43.
However, the lead was short-lived, as Nicklas Bergfors knotted the score at 2-2 less than five minutes later on another power play goal. He spotted the loose puck in the low slot and sent a backhand shot over the glove hand of Norfolk netminder Marc Denis at 8:22.
Jason Ryznar gave Lowell the lead for good just over four minutes later by sending a shot from the left circle past Denis at 12:40. Grant Marshall sealed the deal with an empty-net goal with 22 seconds remaining.
Marc Denis (31 shots, 28 saves) got the loss. Frank Doyle (25 shots, 23 saves) picked up the win.
Norfolk was 0-1 on the power play. Lowell was 2-6.
