Albany Devils News Release
LOWELL, Mass. - Jeff Frazee made 40 saves through overtime and stopped 3-of-4 in the shootout as the Lowell Devils beat the Albany River Rats, 3-2, on Wednesday at the Tsongas Arena. The win was Frazee's 21st of the season, breaking the team record set by Frank Doyle during the 2006-07 season.
Dwight Helminen allowed Albany to hold a 1-0 lead after one period when he knocked home a rebound at 13:38.
The Devils took only 2:13 of the second to even the contest as Vladimir Zharkov crashed the net and flipped the puck over the glove of Justin Peters.
Almost four minutes later on the power play, Nicklas Bergfors put Lowell up, 2-1, when he skated from the far wall into the slot and slipped a low wrister inside the right post.
Albany would turn up the pressure in the third period and tie the game at 8:00 when Nicolas Blanchard stole the puck in front of the Devils' net and fired it point blank past Frazee.
In the overtime period, Frazee stopped three breakaways to help force a shootout and then only allowed Bryan Rodney to trickle a shot into the net over four rounds. Tyler Eckford, Pascal Rheaume and Rod Pelley all beat Peters to help the Devils secure their first shootout win since November 21 at Hartford.
The Lowell Devils host the Hartford Wolf Pack on Friday, February 20 at 7:00 p.m. Listen to the game live on 980AM-WCAP or ahllive.com. For more information about individual tickets and group packages, call (978) 458-PUCK (7825) or log on to www.lowelldevilshockey.com.
