Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Danny Bois, Denis Hamel and Zack Smith each tallied two goals to lead the Binghamton Senators past the Norfolk Admirals by a 6-3 final Wednesday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
The B-Sens fell behind early as the Admirals scored two goals in less than two minutes. Brandon Segal scored a power-play goal off a one-timer which beat B-Sens' netminder Martin Gerber top shelf. Bracken Kearns tallied the second goal when he hit a wide open net on a rebound attempt from a shot at the blue line.
Binghamton stormed back at the end of the first period when Zack Smith buried two goals in just 16 seconds, which set the season mark for the fastest two goals. The first goal came when Derek Smith fired a shot on net, but Admirals' netminder Craig Kowalski let the rebound kick right to Zack Smith who placed it in the open net. The assist was Derek Smith's first of the game and 11th on the season. The game tying goal came on a 2-on-1 break where Marc Cavosie passed to Smith who wristed a shot over the Kowalski's right shoulder just before time expired in the first period. Cavosie also tallied an assist on Smith's first goal which now gives him 12 on the season.
Norfolk grabbed the lead back in the second period when Pete Zingoni one-timed a shot past Gerber making the game 3-2.
The B-Sens came back again less than two minutes later when captain Denis Hamel scored his first goal of the game on a slap shot just inside the blue line which trickled by the Norfolk netminder. Derek Smith picked up his second assist of the game. Peter Regin extended his points streak (1-2) to three games by adding his 17th assist of the season.
The third period was all B-Sens as Danny Bois scored two goals in the period, his first coming less than two minutes into the final stanza. Bois put a rebound home off of a Mattias Karlsson's shot from the point. The assist was Karlsson's 30th of the season, which leads the B-Sens. With the helper Karlsson extended his assist streak to seven games (0-9), which is also a B-Sens season high.
Bois scored his second goal when he stole the puck at center ice. He then wristed the puck top shelf over Kowalski's left shoulder. Bois' two-goal game was the first of the season. He also collected an assist to give him three points on the night (2-1).
Cavosie tied a career-high with his three assists on the night (0-3). Denis Hamel added his second goal of the game on an empty netter at the end of the third period. With the two goals, Hamel extended his point streak to four games (4-1).
