Chicago Wolves News Release

ROSEMONT, Ill.---The Chicago Wolves watched a two-goal, third-period lead evaporate before center Matt Anderson cranked home a shot, 1:52 into overtime, to propel the Wolves to a 3-2 win over the Iowa Chops at the Allstate Arena Wednesday night.

With the score knotted, 2-2, defenseman Alex Brooks fired a long shot from the blue line, which right wing Joey Crabb attempted to deflect in front of the net. Crabb's shot was blocked by Chops goaltender David LeNeveu, but the netminder coughed up the rebound to Anderson, who blasted it into the empty net.

"There was a big momentum shift when they got the second goal," said Wolves Head Coach Don Granato. "But I thought Pavelec did a great job of stepping up and shutting the door and Alex Brooks, Joey Crabb and Matt Anderson worked hard on that play and earned that goal."

Right wing Spencer Machacek got the Wolves on the board, 15:07 into the game. Working on the power play, Machacek brought the puck toward the net from the left corner before collecting it out of a scrum and slipping it by the near post.

Chicago (29-26-2-1) used a man-advantage tally from defenseman Clay Wilson to pull ahead, 2-0, with 24 seconds remaining in the second period. Right wing Joe Motzko flicked a backhanded pass to Wilson at the blue line, and the defenseman wound up and clipped a long shot past a screened LeNeveu.

LeNeveu (15-13-3) made 17 saves for the Chops. Iowa (25-21-3-6) answered, 4:41 into the final frame when the Wolves lost control of the play on a man advantage. Right wing Troy Bodie stripped a Wolves player of the puck near Chicago's blue line, walked in on goaltender Ondrej Pavelec and shipped a shot low, glove side, to help the Chops inch within one, 2-1.

The Chops evened the score, 2-2, at 7:46 of the final frame, when center Matt Caruana moved out from the goal mouth, turned and fired a shot underneath Pavelec's pads.

Pavelec (11-11-1) posted 27 saves for Chicago. The Wolves will face the West Division-leading Milwaukee Admirals next when the two teams lock horns at the Allstate Arena on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
