Devastating Ninth Inning Rally Downs Dogs in Sold out Home Opener

Rosemont, Ill. - The Chicago Dogs scored runs from four different sources, but were trampled after a ninth-inning T-Bone rally in front of a sold-out crowd at the inaugural home opener Friday night at Impact Field by a final score of 8-4.

The T-Bones jumped out to an early lead in the first inning on a solo home run from Dylan Tice. Both teams remained quiet until an eventful fifth inning that saw a second Kansas City home run in the top half from Jordan Walters, and the strangest of rallies from the Dogs in the bottom half.

Chicago loaded the bases with one out on the strength of two hit batsmen and one walk. Kyle Gaedele was then grazed by a pitch, forcing Wilfredo Rodriguez home to cut the Dogs deficit in half. Directly following, with all three bases still occupied, Treysen Vavra scored on an RBI single from Edwin Arroyo to knot the score at 2-2. To cap the lively inning for the Dogs, a Michael Baca single found the grass in centerfield to hustle Matt Dean and Kyle Gaedele home, giving the Dogs a 4-2 cushion.

Just when it seemed that a Dogs win was in store with Chicago closer Kaohi Downing into the game, the T-Bones rallied in the ninth inning to snatch away the Dogs victory. Angel Rosa crushed a three-run home run to left allowing Kansas City to reclaim the lead 5-4. Walters then launched his second home run of the night-another three-run shot for Kansas City to put the T-Bones up for good 8-4.

Kansas City homered four times in the game, after hitting just two home runs through their first six games of the season. The T-Bones also drew four walks in the game after drawing just nine as a team over their first six games.

Chicago received scoreless innings out of the bullpen from the trio of Michael Wagner, Rich Mascheri, and Taylor Grover before Downing's blown save in the ninth.

Kansas City right-hander Pasquele Mazzoccoli earned the win for the T-Bones with an inning and two-thirds of scoreless baseball. The win was Mazzoccoli's first of the season.

The Dogs will continue their first ever home series against Kansas City Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Southpaw Kylin Turnbull will make the start for Chicago, while the T-Bones will counter with right-hander Barrett Astin. The game will be broadcast at www.thechicagodogs.com/broadcasts with the pregame show beginning at 6:43 p.m.
