Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Harrisburg Senators defeated the Reading Phillies 7-3 on Sunday night at First Energy Stadium in Reading, taking a two games to one lead in the four-game series. The Senators improved to 43-47 with the win, while the R-Phils fell to 44-44 on the season.
Ross Detwiler earned the win for the Senators, allowing two runs in five innings as the starter, and moved to 1-1. Michael Cisco (2-5) surrendered five runs in six innings, and took the loss. Sens reliever Adam Carr, fresh off his addition to the Western Division All-Star team earlier Sunday, pitched the final inning and a third to pick up his third save.
The first scoring of the game came in the third inning, when the teams traded runs. Ofilio Castro struck the first blow for the Sens, when he homered on the first pitch of the inning off of Cisco to make it 1-0. It was Castro's first home run of the season. Reading tied the score in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Michael Spidale, which scored Rich Thompson.
Both teams also scored runs in the fourth inning, but the Senators put up three to Reading's one. Detwiler himself had the key hit, doubling with the bases loaded and two outs to clear the bases and make it 4-1. Chris Marrero, Sean Rooney, and Ofilio Castro scored on the play. The R-Phils scored their run on a solo home run by Kevin Mahar, which led off the bottom of the fourth.
A pair of doubles, by Marvin Lowrance and then Chris Marrero, produced another run for the Sens in the fifth, increasing their lead to 5-2. Then, after the R-Phils had plated one in the eighth on an RBI single by Kevin Nelson, the Senators added two insurance runs in the ninth inning. The first came on Michael Martinez' eighth home run, a solo shot off of Reading reliever J. DeFratus. Immediately after the homer, Lowrance doubled, and then Jesus Valdez singled him home. That did it for the scoring, as Carr shut down the R-Phils in the ninth.
The teams will play the final game of the series, and the last game before the Eastern League All-Star break, Monday afternoon at 12:05 PM. Right-hander Andrew Kown (3-4, 4.36) starts on the mound for the Sens, against LHP Yohan Flande (6-6, 4.35) of Reading. Fans can hear all the action starting at 11:50 AM, by tuning in to 1460 AM The Ticket or logging on to www.senatorsbaseball.com.
