New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Binghamton, NY-Darin Mastroianni went 3-for-5 with three doubles and two RBI, two of them coming in a six-run fourth inning as the Fisher Cats beat the Mets 8-6 Sunday afternoon in Binghamton.
B.J. LaMura (3-3) picked up his second consecutive win, allowing four earned runs in five innings. He walked two and struck out six. Ronald Uviedo and Danny Farquhar bridged to the ninth inning, and Tim Collins worked a 1-2-3 frame for his eighth save.
Binghamton (48-42) scored the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the second inning. Mike Nickeas and Michael Fisher each hit solo home runs off LaMura for a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth inning, New Hampshire (54-36) sent twelve men to the plate, scoring six times, to take a 6-2 lead. Adam Loewen singled (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and stole second and Matt Liuzza doubled him home for the first Fisher Cats run. After Jonathan Diaz walked, Mastroianni doubled home Liuzza and Diaz to make it 3-2. Adeiny Hechavarria singled home Mastroianni to make it 4-2 ending the day for Mets starter Mark Cohoon. Reliever Roy Merritt then walked four consecutive batters- Eric Thames, Shawn Bowman, Cooper and Loewen. The Cooper and Loewen walks produced runs.
The Mets (48-42) cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the fifth inning. Kirk Nieuwenheis doubled and Marshall Hubbard homered to make it 6-4.
In the top of the sixth inning, Thames doubled, Cooper walked and Loewen delivered an RBI single to put the Fisher Cats up 7-4.
The Mets pulled to within one in the bottom of the seventh inning. Nieuwenheis homered off Uviedo to make it 7-5, Jon Malo reached on an error and Wabick singled. Danny Farquhar came out of the New Hampshire pen and hit Marshall Hubbard. Josh Satin singled Malo in to make it 7-6. But with the bases loaded, Farquhar got Raul Reyes to bounce back to the mound starting a 1-2-3 double play which ended the inning. And Farquhar and Tim Collins did not allow a base runner after that to secure the win.
In the top of the eighth inning, All-Star Eric Thames blasted his 15th homer, a solo shot off Mets reliever Eddie Kunz to make it 8-6.
The Fisher Cats play the final game before the All-Star Break at 1:05pm on Monday afternoon in Binghamton. Right-hander Randy Boone (2-4, 3.67) will start for the Fisher Cats. The Mets counter with right-hander Chris Schwinder (4-5, 4.65). Fisher Cats Pre-Game gets underway at 12:45pm with Bob Lipman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
The Fisher Cats return to Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Thursday, July 15, to open a four-game series against the Binghamton Mets. It will be Faith & Family Night, followed by an Atlas Fireworks Show. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
