Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Carolina and Chattanooga, once again, gave fans another action-packed game on Friday night at AT&T Field. The game entered the ninth inning tied, but Travis Denker hit a clutch walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to give the Lookouts a 6-5 win.
Both teams exchanged two-run rallies in the first frame. Alfredo Silverman began the Lookouts' half inning with a single and moved to second on a subsequent bunt single by Jake Lemmerman. With ducks on the pond, Alex Castellanos came up to the plate and drilled a triple to plate both runners.
Red-hot Scott Van Slyke blasted a solo shot to lead off the fourth frame to give the Lookouts the lead. Also, two consecutive fielding errors by the Mudcats in the same inning set up an Elian Herrera sacrifice fly to put the score at 4-2.
The Mudcats inched closer in the fifth inning with another run. Didi Gregorius led off with a double and eventually scored on a single from Quintin Berry.
The score remained 4-3 until the top of seventh, when Henry Rodriguez stepped up to the plate with runners on first and second. Rodriguez proceeded to rip a single just over the glove of third baseman Travis Denker. The hit was misplayed by left fielder Van Slyke, and the ball rolled all the way to the warning track. As a result, the Mudcats plated two and took the lead.
Fitting in with the general motif of the series, the Lookouts immediately countered in the bottom portion of the seventh with a run of their own to tie up the game. Ethan Martin and Alfredo Silverio began the inning by walking. Lemmerman laid down an effective bunt to advance both runners. Castellanos then grounded out to third baseman Eric Campbell, allowing Martin to score from third.
After both teams failed to score in the eighth inning, the game entered the ninth inning tied. Despite having two runners reach base, the Mudcats failed to score in their half of the inning against Javier Solano (1-0). In the Lookouts' half, Silverio led off with a double. Lemmerman then laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Silverio to third. Mudcats reliever Travis Webb (1-7) then proceeded to intentionally walk the next two batters. With the bases loaded, Travis Denker came up to the plate without a hit to his name for the evening. After taking a strike, Denker ripped a solid single to center field to win the game.
The Chattanooga Lookouts and Carolina Mudcats will wrap up their five-game series at 7:15 P.M., tomorrow. Tickets for this game or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
