Mobile BayBears News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A 1-1 tie was broken on a Jim Negrych home run in the bottom of the fifth, and the Jacksonville Suns never looked back in a 7-2 victory over the BayBears on Friday afternoon at the Baseball Grounds.

Negrych went deep to lead off the fifth inning against Bryan Henry (6-4). Henry coughed up another dinger to begin the bottom of the sixth as Kyle Jensen went deep to put the Suns (64-60, 27-27) up by two. Paul Gran popped a sac fly later in the frame to score Neil Sellers, giving Jacksonville a three-run cushion.

Jose Alvarez (2-4) lasted six innings on the hill for the Suns as he pinned down the BayBears (74-49, 36-17) to a run on six hits. Adam Eaton sliced a double down the left field line to score Dan Kaczrowski for the only tally off Alvarez. Alvarez didn't walk anybody while punching out four.

Charles Brewer made his return to the BayBears' starting rotation as he tossed the first three frames and surrendered one run on three hits. Brewer walked three including Kyle Skipworth with the bases loaded in the bottom of the third but also managed five strikeouts.

An RBI single from Eaton cut the Jacksonville advantage to 4-2 in the seventh, but the Suns pulled away with a two-run homer from Jensen in the bottom of the seventh and a run-scoring knock off the bat of Gran in the eighth.

The BayBears lead in the South Division by 9.5 games over the second-place Suns with their magic number to clinch a South Division second half crown at 8. The BayBears take on the Suns in the finale of a five-game set from the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville on Saturday night at 6:05 central time. 2011 first-round draft pick Trevor Bauer (0-0) will make his second start for the BayBears. They return to Hank Aaron Stadium on Sunday to host the Jackson Generals at 6:05 p.m., beginning the final homestand of the regular season. For tickets, which start at $5 for kids and $7 for adults, please call (251) 479-BEAR or visit www.mobilebaybears.com. You can also follow the BayBears all season long on Facebook and Twitter.
