TODAY'S GAME: Today Jackson tries to stop a 4-game losing streak, their 3rd longest losing skid of the season. The Generals are 3-5 against the Smokies this season. With the loss last night, it stopped the string of 3 straight series' won. Jackson is now 8-9 during the month of August.

JACKSON GENERALS RECAP: - The Smokies won another slugfest at Pringles Park Wednesday night, 8-6 over the Generals. All but one run scored in the first five innings. Scott Savastano was 1-for-4, with a pair of RBI's and a walk, extending his hitting streak to 11 games. Gabriel Noriega was 3-for-4, scoring a pair of runs for Jackson on Wednesday. Vinnie Catricala and Francisco Martinez each had two hits. Martinez has six hits in the first two games of the series. Bobby LaFromboise relieved Moises Hernandez after three innings and five runs (four earned) were scored. LaFromboise surrendered three runs on four hits in three relief innings and suffered the loss. Brian Moran and Stephen Pryor combined for three scoreless innings in the 7th-9th. Reliever Oswaldo Martinez for Tennesee earned the win, pitching two scoreless innings and fanning three.

DID YOU KNOW': The Mariners used 8 rookies in Monday's win over the Blue Jays (Ackley-2B, Carp-1B, Wells-DH, Robinson-LF, Seager-3B, Pineda-SP, Cortes-RP, Wilhelmsen-RP) and 8 rookies again Wednesday.Monday marked the fi rst time since the inaugural season in 1977 that Mariners have used 8 rookies in a game prior to the rosters expanding.the record for rookies used in a game (pre-September) is 9, set Aug. 27, 1977 vs. Cleveland (research help from Stats Inc.).

CATRICALA IF YOU CAN: Vinnie Catricala has combined to bat .353 (162x459) with 65 XBH (2B - 43, 3B - 3, HR - 19) in 114 games split between A High Desert and Jackson. Among full-season minor leaguers he ranks 2nd in hits, T3rd in doubles, T4th in XBH, 6th in batting average, T12th in RBI (92) & 13th in OPS (1.007).

SAVASTANO'S STREAK STOPS AT 11: Scott Savastano was 0-for-4 last night stopping his 11 game hit streak yesterday. He has hit safely in 13 of his last 16 games though. Since August 3rd he is batting .286 (20x70) with 9 runs scored, 5 doubles, 3 home runs and 10 RBI.

TODAY'S STARTER: RHP Steven Hensley makes his 15th start tonight for Jackson and has won 2 of his last 3 starts. Hensley tossed a season best 7 innings in his last start, giving up just 1 run, but took a no decision.

QUALITY RELIEF: Stephen Pryor has not allowed an earned run in 10 of 12 appearances with Jackson. He is 2-1 with 3 saves and with a 1.59 (3 ER, 17.0IP), while walking 7 and striking out 21 in 12 games. Brian Moran has not allowed an earned run in 11.1 innings pitched over his last 7 outings. Moran is 2-1, with a 1.91 ERA in 20 2nd half appearances as opposed to 2-2, with an 8.51 ERA in the 1st half.

TODAY IN BASEBALL HISTORY: 1921 - Ty Cobb gets hit number 3,000 off Boston pitcher Elmer Myers. At 34, the youngest ever to do so. 1992 - Bret Boone made history when he became part of the first three-generation family to play MLB. Boone is the grandson of Ray Boone, who played from 1948-60, and son of Bob Boone, from 1972-90. Bret, 23, started at second base for the Seattle Mariners against Baltimore.
