Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

CINCINNATI - Cincinnati Cyclones forward Ryan Del Monte broke a 1-1 tie with 2:33 remaining to give the club a 3-1 win over the Wheeling Nailers on Friday night. Rookie goaltender Robert Mayer steered aside 22 shots to take the victory. The Cyclones are now 8-0-1 in the month of February, having not lost in regulation time since January 30 at Kalamazoo.

The Cyclones scored the lone goal of the first period when Jimmy Kilpatrick slipped his tenth goal of the season past Wheeling goaltender Adam Berkhoel. Defenseman Jason Jozsa fired a pass from the right side of the Cincinnati defense to the left wing side of the Nailers blueline. Mark Voakes collected the pass and moved up the left wing side, gently flipping the pass to Kilpatrick-who drifted across the slot from the left side to the right and deposited the puck into the cage. The shots favored Wheeling, 8-7, in the period-as the Nailers had the only two power plays of the period.

Wheeling knotted the scores at one each with the only score of the second period. Rookie Casey Pierro-Zabotel picked up his tenth goal of the season lifting a shot on his backhand coming down the right wing side. Former Cyclone Thomas Beauregard and Jon D'Aversa had the assists on the score.

Cincinnati scored both goals of the third period to claim the 3-1 win. Forward Ryan Del Monte netted his fifth goal of the season in a goal mouth scramble for the game winner. Barret Ehgoetz and Scott Reynolds had the assists on the score at 17:27. Defenseman Brock Sheahan netted an empty net score with 41.9 seconds remaining to ice the contest. Reynolds and Brett Motherwell assisted on the score. The shots on goal favored Cincinnati, 12-6, in the final frame. For the game, Cincinnati outshot the Nailers, 30-23.

Robert Mayer picked up the victory, his 16th of the season. He turned aside 22 shots in taking the win. He is now 4-0-1 in February with a league-best 1.61 goals against average in the month. Adam Berkhoel took the loss, re-directing 27 shots in the loss. Wheeling was zero for four on the power play, while the Cyclones were zero for two with the man-advantage.
