Estero, FL - Despite Florida newcomer Dominic Osman notching two of Florida's three goals, the Everblades recorded an overtime 4-3 loss to the Kalamazoo K-Wings Friday night at Germain Arena. After a controversial shot in overtime was declared no goal for Kalamazoo, the K-Wings' Brian McGuirk finally sealed the win at 3:39.
Kalamazoo caught an early lead at 2:19 in the first period with a goal by center Darryl Lloyd; the assists going to Dean Strong and former Everblade Andrew Fournier. Florida responded four minutes later when freshly-signed left wing Dominic Osman pushed the puck past Kalamazoo's Jeremy Duchesne with the help of rookies Shea Guthrie and Phil Paquet. Florida gained a 2-1 edge with a tally by Mathieu Roy at 8:04, the helpers going to right wing Chris Capraro and center Colin Nicholson. A minute later, Kalamazoo evened the score 2-2 when a scuffle in front of Florida's net turned into a goal for the K-Wings. Forward Trent Daavettila was credited the power-play goal with assists to defenseman Jon Landry and center Mathieu Curadeau.
The second period kicked off with another goal by Osman 22 seconds in as he shot up the ice to the left of Kalamazoo's Duchesne. Osman, assisted by Paquet and captain Ross Carlson, fired the puck top shelf notching his 15th goal of the season and 3rd in an Everblades sweater. Osman missed the chance for a hat trick at 7:49 with a penalty shot that flew left of Kalamazoo's net but Florida kept the lead for the remainder of the stanza, 3-2.
The K-Wings erased the deficit 7:34 into the third period, evening the score 3-3 when a rebounding puck off the stick of center Rick Cleaver bounced into Florida's net. Kalamazoo's Daavettila and Landry recorded assists. Florida didn't respond in regulation, ending the third period deadlocked at 3-3.
Fifty-three seconds into overtime, K-Wing forward Daavettila shot the puck past Florida goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu but the referees decided no goal. Kalamazoo offense reacted again at 3:39 when left wing Brian McGuirk tossed the puck into Florida's net to seal the K-Wings victory, 4-3.
