
Stingrays Blank Gladiators 4-0

North Charleston, NC - The South Carolina Stingrays (33-15-4-5) shutout the Gwinnett Gladiators (25-22-3-2) 4-0 in front of 4,845 at North Charleston Coliseum Friday night. Stingrays forward Trent Campbell pushed his point streak (4g, 6a) to seven games and forward Spencer Carbery scored his second shorthanded goal of the season in the victory.
Stingrays forward Rob Ricci netted the only goal of the first period at 4:43 beating Gladiators goaltender Danny Taylor high blocker-side with a snap shot from the top of the left-wing circle. Carbery and defenseman Nate Kiser assisted Ricci's 19 goal of the season.
Carbery continued the scoring in the second period completing a shorthanded 2-on-1 rush with Ricci at 18:35 beating Taylor over the left shoulder. Through two periods of play, the Stingrays outshot the Gladiators 31 to 10.
Stingrays forward Keith Johnson netted his 21 goal of the season at 8:56 of the third period from Trent Campbell and Gregg Johnson to make it 3-0. Captain Matt Scherer added a late tally at 14:54 from defenseman Grant Farrell to end the game scoring. Stingrays goaltender Shane Connelly earned his second shutout of the season stopping all 15 Gladiators shots. Taylor ended the night kicking away 39 of 43 Stingrays chances. The Stingrays finished the night 0-for-3 on the power play while the Gladiators went 0-for-2.
