Great Lakes Loons News Release
LANSING, MICHIGAN -Lansing's D.J. Davis launched a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to snap a dead heat and deliver the Lugnuts a 5-3 win over the Loons on Tuesday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.
Davis' blast to right ended his 0-for-7 start to the series and occurred on a 3-2 pitch with two outs in the inning. Righty reliever James Campbell (L, 0-1) retired the first two batters of the inning and walked Chris Carlson before Davis stepped in on the left side.
The longball allowed Lansing to overcome the Loons' nine-hit night and early lead. Carlson skied a ball to right in the fifth off righty starter Kevin Guzman that bounced on top of the wall for another two-run home run. Lansing's first dinger tied the game at 2-2.
The Loons again scored early and took a 1-0 lead off right-hander Chase Mallard in the second on an RBI single by Julian Leon, his third straight game with a run-scoring single. In the top of the fifth, Alex Verdugo ended Mallard's night with an RBI single to put the Loons up 2-0.
Great Lakes nearly scored again in the fifth, but Carlson threw out Cristian Gomez at home plate from left field to end the inning.
After Lansing tied in the fifth, the teams swapped sacrifice flies in the sixth to make the score 3-3.
Righty Dusty Isaacs (W, 1-0) threw 3.1 innings of relief to earn his first win with the Lugnuts, while fellow right-hander Carlos Ramirez (S, 3) pocketed the save.
The Loons (43-38; 5-8) end their road trip with a 2-2 mark and return to Dow Diamond for two games to close out the series with Lansing. The Lugnuts (49-34; 7-6) lead the season series 5-3 over Great Lakes. First pitch on Wednesday is 7:05 p.m. EDT with coverage at 6:35 p.m. on ESPN 100.9-FM.
The Great Lakes Loons are a ninth-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers. For tickets and more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com, or call 989-837-BALL.
