Davis Rockets Lugnuts Past Loons, 5-3

LANSING, Mich. - D.J. Davis mashed a tiebreaking two-run home run in the seventh to shoot the Lansing Lugnuts (7-6, 49-34) to a 5-3 win over the Great Lakes Loons (5-8, 43-38) Tuesday at Cooley Law School Stadium.

Davis clocked a fastball from reliever James Campbell (Loss, 0-1) over the right field wall, the outfielder's fourth home run of the season and first bomb since a grand slam June 8 against Peoria.

Chris Carlson also homered to tie the game at two in the fifth. The product of Cal Poly Pomona has four home runs in his last 19 games after not hitting a home run in his first 96 professional outings.

Chase Mallard made a spot start for the Lugnuts and allowed two runs in 4.2 IP. Dusty Isaacs (Win, 1-0) pitched a career-high 3.1 innings in relief and allowed three hits, one run, and struck out four.

After allowing a leadoff double in the ninth, Carlos Ramirez recorded the final three outs to capture his second save.

The Lugs take to the road for the first of a five-game road trip Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. against Great Lakes. Justin Shafer (3-0, 1.65) shut out Lake County over five innings his last start. The University of Florida product opposes All-Star Grant Holmes (4-1, 3.13).
