
Chiefs Sneak Past Bees, 2-1

(Peoria-IL)- The Burlington Bees came up short, losing to the Peoria Chiefs 2-1 in game two of a four game series, Tuesday night, in Peoria at Dozer Park.
Peoria starting pitcher, Jack Flaherty retired the first five batters he faced before Steven Mateo lined a single to center with two outs in the top of the second inning. Erick Salcedo then flew out to center field, stranding Mateo at first. Alex DeLeon opened the bottom of the second inning with a double and moved to third on a Harrison Bader single. After Bader stole second base, Steve Bean chopped a single to right, scoring DeLeon, giving Peoria a 1-0 lead. Luis Cruz grounded back to Keynan Middleton who threw to second base to start the double play, scoring Bader, upping the Chiefs' lead to 2-0.
Brandon Gildea reached base on a fielding error to start the third inning. Michael Hermosillo then hit a soft ground ball to Oscar Mercado at shortstop who threw the ball away, putting runners at the corners with nobody out. Jake Yacinich hit a one hopper to Alex DeLeon at first base who threw home to get Brandon Gildea at the plate. After Tim Arakawa struck out looking, Trever Allen grounded out, ending the threat, stranding two runners.
Brandon Gildea pulled a one out double to left field in the top of the fifth inning. After Michael Hermosillo walked, Jake Yacinich lined out to third but the ball was thrown away, allowing Gildea to take third base. Tim Arakawa was hit by a pitch, loading the bases for Trever Allen who flew out to right field, leaving the bases loaded.
Zach Houchins opened the top of the sixth with a single and moved to third on a Natanael Delgado double. While Steven Mateo was at the plate, Houchins came home to score on a wild pitch, cutting Peoria's lead to 2-1. After Mateo struck out swinging, Erick Salcedo grounded out to the drawn in infield, keeping Delgado at third. The Bees left the bases loaded as Brandon Gildea grounded out to end the top of the sixth.
Peoria starting pitcher, Jack Flaherty (4-1) allowed just one run in 5.1 innings, picking up the win. Bees' starter Keynan Middleton (4-5) was charged with the loss, allowing just two runs in six innings. Kyle Grana (9) picked up the save.
