Davis and Ovando Power 'Cats to Father's Day Win

Tri-City ValleyCats News Release
TROY, NY -J.D. Davis picked the perfect time for his first professional hit.
With the Tri-City ValleyCats down 2-0 to the visiting Connecticut Tigers, Davis unloaded a two-run home run over the left field wall to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning.
After Davis tied the game, Ariel Ovando won it for the 'Cats with a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Blaine Sims, a left-handed knuckleballer, got the start for Tri-City. The England, Ark. native threw four innings, allowing only two runs off of five hits. Unfortunately, he left the game with his team down by two runs as the ValleyCats struggled to get their offense off the ground against Tigers right-hander Tanner Bailey. Bailey, making his first start of the year, threw six scoreless frames, striking out nine batters while allowing only three hits.
But with Bailey out to start the seventh, the script flipped for the ValleyCats. Micah Kellogg's first pitch hit 'Cats third baseman Nick Tanielu in the shoulder, putting the leadoff batter on first.
In the ensuing at bat, Davis, who was playing in only his second game as a professional after getting selected by the Astros last week in the third round of the MLB Draft, smashed the 3-1 pitch from Kellogg out of the park for his first professional hit and homer.
'Cats right-hander Luis Ordosgiotti earned the win in relief after throwing five scoreless innings, striking out five and allowing just two hits.
The winning run was set up for the 'Cats in the bottom of the ninth when Ravel Santana walked with one out, then moved to second on Marc Wik's base hit. Ovando then drove a 0-2 breaking ball into the gap in right field, scoring Santana from second and sending the ValleyCats fans home happy on Father's Day.
The ValleyCats will host the Lowell Spinnerson Monday nightin the first of two games. The Spinners are an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Righty Troy Scribner will get the start for the 'Cats, while Lowell will send up LHP Randy Perez.
The 'Cats will celebrate the work of their Community Grounds Crew field renovation program as part of the Youth Baseball Night festivities, presented by BlueShield of Northeastern New York.
