SPRINGFIELD, MA - Mathieu Darche had a four-point night and Kyle Wanvig netted two goals to force overtime, but the Norfolk Admirals (4-9-0-2) fell in a shootout to the Springfield Falcons (8-5-0-3) 5-4 at the MassMutual Center on Friday night.

The Falcons got on the board first just 3:10 into the opening frame. T.J. Kemp sent a shot from the point that Norfolk netminder Jonathan Boutin stopped. However, the rebound ended up on the stick of Tyler Spurgeon, who sent it past Boutin for a 1-0 Springfield lead.

Mathieu Darche knotted the game at 1-1 with just 26 seconds remaining in the first period. Bryce Lampman sent a shot from the left point that was deflected by Jeff Campbell on its way to the net. Darche picked up the rebound and banged it home.

The Falcons established a two-goal lead midway through the second period. Patrick Thoresen netted a shorthanded goal at 5:08. Viacheslav Trukhno found the puck in a goalmouth scramble and scored a power play goal at 9:29.

The Admirals made it 3-2 five minutes later after Lampman sent another shot from the point. This one deflected off Springfield goaltender Jeff Deslaurier's stick and into the net at 15:37.

Norfolk appeared to have the momentum in their favor two minutes after the Lampman goal with a five-on-three advantage. However, Thoresen found the back of the net again with another shorthanded tally at 17:08.

The Admirals were able to convert on their five-on-three advantage 52 seconds later. Kyle Wanvig attempted a pass from the left circle that deflected off a Springfield stick and past Deslauriers at 17:56.

Norfolk tied the game late in regulation on another power play goal. Craig MacDonald passed the puck from behind the net toward the slot. Wanvig one-timed the puck into the net with 3:35 left in the third period.

After a scoreless overtime, Springfield's Patrick Thoresen netted two goals in the shootout to Norfolk's one from Jeff Campbell to claim the victory.

Jonathan Boutin (34 shots, 30 saves) got the shootout loss. Jeff Deslauriers (34 shots, 30 saves) got the victory.

The Admirals were 2-5 on the power play. Springfield was 1-4.

Mathieu Darche now has a goal and six assists in two games since joining Norfolk from the parent Tampa Bay Lightning. He has a part in all seven goals Norfolk has scored in those two games.
