Iowa Chops News Release

The Chicago Wolves remain undefeated in regulation and snapped the Iowa Stars' five game unbeaten streak with a 7-5 win at Wells Fargo Arena on Friday night. The Wolves improved to 12-0-1-0 while the Stars fell to 8-7-1-0. The Stars host the Quad City Flames tomorrow night at 7:07.

The game was one of ups and downs for the home team as the Stars jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Marius Holtet and Toby Petersen. After the first period ended with a 2-1 score Chicago broke out with four goals in the second period and took a 5-2 advantage into the third.

The Stars got back into the game 51 seconds after the third period face-off. Toby Petersen scored his AHL leading 11th goal of the season, and second of the game, to cut the Wolves' lead to 5-3.

But, just as the Stars seemed to have captured the momentum, the Wolves capitalized on a 5-on-3 power play to regain their three-goal margin. The Stars would not sit tight, as they rallied again. This time it was goals from Junior Lessard at 10:57 and Joel Lundqvist 43 seconds later at 11:40, shrinking the Chicago lead to one.

The Stars came close to tying the score on more the one occasion, but could not get the equalizer. An empty net goal by Kevin Doell with 1.4 seconds left closed out the scoring.

The Stars' power play came to life Friday night. Having gone just two-for 26 in the previous five games, the Stars converted on three of seven chances. Chicago also had success with the man-advantage as they went two of seven.

Petersen (2 goals), Lessard (1 goal/1 assist), Lundqvist (1 goal/1 assist) and Marty Sertich (2 assists) each had multiple points on the night for the Stars. Tobias Stephan took the loss in the net for Iowa with 29 saves. The Wolves outshot the Stars 36-35.
