Albany River Rats News Release
Albany, NY - The Hershey Bears won their thirteenth straight game at the Times Union Center with a 6-4 win Friday night over the Albany River Rats.
It did not take long for the River Rats to ignite the offense. Rookie forward Bobby Hughes scored his second goal of the season, picking up a rebound from a Keith Aucoin shot at 3:25 of the opening period; Aucoin and defenseman Joey Mormina assisted on the goal. The Bears answered at 9:53 when Chris Bourque scored on a backhand shot from Ben Clymer. 68 seconds the River Rats regained the lead on a Mark Flood power play goal; Flood unleashed a scorching slap shot from the top of the left face off circle for his first goal of the season at 11:01, assisted by Brett Carson and Brandon Nolan. Again Hershey countered when Jason Morgan tied the game at 12:23.
Hershey took their first lead at 3:57 of the second period on a goal by Jay Beagle, assisted by Scott Barney and Quintin Laing. Jakub Klepis doubled the Bears lead with a power play goal at 15:43, but Rats' left wing Brandon Nolan responded 25 seconds later to pull Albany back to 4-3 at 16:08, assisted by Mike Angelidis and Nicolas Blanchard.
Klepis scored his second goal of the game at 8:02 of the third period, pulling Hershey up to a 5-3 lead. Albany narrowed the gap late in the third when Nolan scored his second goal of the night, his sixth of the year, at 18:29, assisted by Keith Aucoin and Bobby Hughes. However, Hershey iced the game at 19:20 when Klepis scored an empty net goal to complete his hat trick, the first three-goal performance by one player against Albany this season.
Frederic Cassivi earned his 3rd win of the season in goal for Hershey by making 18 saves on 22 shots; the Bears were 1-for-5 on the power play and improved their record to 5-7-0-0. Michael Leighton stopped 23-of-28 shots in goal for Albany, who dropped to 7-7-0-1 on the season and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
The River Rats remain at home on Saturday, November 17th for a 7:00 pm match up with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins; the Penguins first trip to New York this season. Albany will complete the weekend with a Sunday afternoon game on Sunday, November 18th against Hershey at the Giant Center.
