Admirals Top San Antonio 4-3 in Shootout

Milwaukee, WI-Mike Santorelli scored on a penalty shot in regulation and then iced the game with a goal during the shootout as the Milwaukee Admirals posted a come-from-behind, 4-3 shoot-out victory over the San Antonio Rampage Friday night at the Bradley Center.

The Rampage entered the game as the most penalized team in the AHL, so it was no surprise that the first period was played primarily by the two squads' special teams. The Admirals had three power-play opportunities in the opening stanza, while San Antonio had a pair of their own, but neither team could find the back of the net and the score was knotted at 0-0 after 20 minutes of play.

San Antonio would jump out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of tallies in the second period. Enver Lisin opened the scoring with a breakaway goal just 1:27 into the second to make it 1-0 and then Joey Tenute put the Rampage up 2-0 when he found the puck in a scrum in front of the Milwaukee net and was able to poke it past netminder Pekka Rinne at 17:11.

The momentum seemed to turn in the Ads favor when Santorelli was hooked from behind on a breakaway at the 18:51 mark of the second and was awarded a penalty shot. The rookie from Northern Michigan beat San Antonio goaltender Josh Tordjman five-hole to close the gap to one at 2-1 after two periods.

A Jason Guerriero slapshot from left circle tied the game 4:53 into the third and the Admirals looked to be in business when the Rampage's Curtis Fraser was sent to the box on a holding call with just over ten minutes to play in the contest. However, it was San Antonio who capitalized on the chance as Cam Paddock scored the team's league leading seventh short-handed goal at the 11:25 mark of the third. Former Admirals Chris Durno assisted on the play for the Rampage.

The Admirals would battle back again to tie the score when Cal O'Reilly posted his fifth goal of the season with just under 2:30 to play during a five-on-three power-play. Dave Scatchard and Janne Niskala assisted on the marker and the game went to overtime tied at three.

Each team had about a minute of four-on-three time during OT, but neither was able to benefit from the power play and the game went to a shootout, the first of the year for Milwaukee.

The first three shooters for each team missed the mark before Niskala was able to beat Tordjman on Milwaukee's fourth attempt. After Rinne stoned Matt Murley's try, Santorelli went top-shelf on the San Antonio goaltender to secure the win for the Admirals.

After surrendering third period leads twice in their previous four games, the Admirals picked up their first win this season when trailing after 40 minutes of play.

O'Reilly registered a goal and an assist to notch his fourth-multi point game this season, while Rinne made 21 saves during regulation and overtime and then stuffed all four Rampage attempts in the shoot-out to pick up his seventh victory this year.

The Admirals are off for the rest of the weekend and hit the ice again this Tuesday, November 20th against the Quad City Flames at 7:00 pm at the Bradley Center.
