Buffalo Bisons News Release

BUFFALO, NY - Danny Jansen's grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning capped a nine-run inning that helped power the Buffalo Bisons 12-11 win over the Rochester Red Wings on Wednesday night at Sahlen Field.

The Red Wings were able to strike for five runs in the top of the second inning against Andrew Bash. Jake Alu led off the inning with a base hit and was the first of five straight batters that would reach base and score for Rochester.

Travis Blankenhorn capped off the inning with a two-run base hit that scored Brady Lindsly and Darren Baker. That extended Rochester's lead to 5-0 in the top of the second.

However, the Bisons would answer with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to cut their deficit to three. Buffalo's offense came with two out in the inning when four straight batters reached base. That included an RBI double by Max McDowell that scored Will Robertson.

It was followed two batters later with a Spencer Horwitz RBI single to right field. Horwitz's base hit extended his hitting streak to four straight games. McDowell's run scored reduced the Bisons deficit to 5-2 through two.

Buffalo answered back again in the bottom of the fourth, this time against reliever Tim Cate. Horwitz drew a bases loaded walk to bring the Herd within two runs, 5-3. He was followed by Jansen, who collected his second hit of the game. Jansen, working back from a right wrist fracture, belted a grand slam to left center field that flipped the two-run deficit into a 7-5 lead.

Addison Barger extended the Bisons lead to 8-5 with his second double of the game. This time it allowed Orelvis Martinez to score from second base. The offense continued with Robertson's second hit of the night. His three-run homer extended Buffalo's lead to 11-5 through four innings.

The Red Wings would strike for five runs in the middle innings, including a Juan Yepez two-run homer in the top of the sixth that brought Rochester within a run, 11-10.

Horwitz once again added to the Bisons lead, reaching base for the fourth time in the game with an RBI double that scored McDowell. Horwitz reached base for the 16th time in the last four games in the process, giving Buffalo a 12-10 lead through seven innings.

Rochester would get back within a run, but Zach Pop would secure the final three outs for his first save of the season. The Bisons have won both games of the series and will try for their sixth straight win overall at 1:05 p.m. Thursday afternoon against Rochester.
