Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones, proud affiliate of the NHL's Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators, announced today that Dan Eves has been selected as the recipient of the 2013-14 ECHL Community Service Award.

Each ECHL team was given the opportunity to nominate a player for their efforts in community and charitable causes during the 2013-14 season. The nominations were voted on by League Office personnel.

Eves has taken an active role in the Cyclones' efforts in the Cincinnati community since joining the team in 2011. He currently serves as the program administrator and head of the fundraising committee for Hockey Players for Kids (HP4K). Eves has helped to grow HP4K's presence in Cincinnati each season, and is the first to volunteer for any team-related activity that benefits the community.

During the 2013-14 season, Eves was involved in several initiatives throughout the Cincinnati community. As part of HP4K's signature program, "Stick to Reading", he and his teammates visited Newport Intermediate School on three occasions. During their final visit, a $200 book donation was made to the school.

Over the holiday season, Eves and some teammates joined forces with a local Cub Scout Pack to benefit the children of St. Joseph's Orphanage. They auctioned off hockey memorabilia and spent time engaging the scouts and their families on what it is like to be in a position to help those less fortunate.

"Dan has gone above and beyond what is expected of a professional athlete and role model in our community," said Cyclones Head Coach Ben Simon. "He epitomizes what the Cincinnati Cyclones are all about in trying to have a positive impact on so many people in the Cincinnati area. We are proud that Dan has been recognized for his efforts and are very fortunate to have a player of his character representing us both on the ice, and, more importantly, as a role model in our community."

Along with other Cyclones' players, Eves spent time at Kings High School talking with a sports marketing class. The discussions ranged from the importance of education to the rigors of being a professional athlete.

"Dan exemplifies what we want from our players," said Cyclones General Manager Kristin Ropp. "He is a leader on the ice was well as off within the community. I'm extremely proud that he is a Cyclone."

For the third year in a row, Eves organized the "Cyclones Give Moore" program that brought over 20 deserving kids to U.S. Bank Arena in late December. The children were treated to a Cyclones' win followed by a special meet-and-greet with the players where each of them received a holiday gift of Cyclones' merchandise, all provided through his own fundraising and personal donations.

Throughout the season, Eves collects autographed and game-used equipment from teammates to auction off during home games. Proceeds are used to purchase materials needed for each program, as well as to fund the book donations. Over the years, he has formed a partnership with Most Valuable Kids Cincinnati and 2,100 tickets have been donated to MVK this season alone.

The Cyclones will return to U.S. Bank Arena TONIGHT when they host the Wheeling Nailers at 7:30pm! The game will feature Cincinnati's Largest Fish Fry along with $1 beers! Plus, it's our annual Pucks N Pups night where fans can bring their four-legged friends to the game for just $2 in addition to a normal game ticket! Fans can also get the latest team updates throughout the season on Facebook and Twitter (@CincyCyclones).
