NEXT HOME GAME (After Tonight)
Friday, April 11 - 7:30pm vs. Wheeling Nailers
PUCKS N PUPS / WIENER DOG RACES / CINCY'S LARGEST FISH FRY / $1 BEERS
TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: Despite falling in overtime on Wednesday night to Kalamazoo, the Cyclones have earned points in four straight games. Tonight, they'll look to hang two more points on their ledger as they face the Wheeling Nailers in the first of back-to-back match-ups at U.S. Bank Arena. The season series with their West Virginian foes has been remarkably close; the Clones have earned a 5-4-1 record against the Nailers while the goal differential between the teams is even at 26.
TONIGHT'S PROMOTION: PUCKS & PUPS / WIENER DOG RACES / CINCY'S LARGEST FISH FRY / $1 BEERS - Fans can bring their four-legged friends to the game for just $2 in addition to a normal game ticket. Plus, enjoy the city's largest fish fry featuring $1 beers! And we'll hold our annual Wiener Dog Races on the ice between periods!
SCOUTING THE NAILERS: Clark Donatelli's club has already clinched a playoff spot thanks in part to eight wins out of their last 10 games. However, they're still hoping to earn home ice advantage in the first round - and will need a perfect weekend to give them a shot at it. Zack Torquato has continued to lead the Nailers this season, posting 52 points (14g, 38a) in 44 games - seven of those tallies coming against Cincinnati. Former Cyclone Christiaan Minella has caught fire of late as well; he's put his name on the scoresheet in six consecutive games and owns 16 points (11g, 5a) in just 21 ECHL contests. Mike Condon, winner of Goalie of the Week accolades this past week, has amassed a 22-12-0-4 record this season with a 2.24 goals-against average. Fellow net minder Eric Hartzell has recently returned from the AHL and owns an 8-4-0-1 mark with a 2.91 GAA.
LAST HEAD-TO-HEAD MEETING: MARCH 15, 2014: In one of the most defensive battles of the season, the Nailers snuck past the Cyclones by a 2-0 final score in front of 2,901 at WesBanco Arena. Mike Condon earned his third shutout of the season as the Cyclones got blanked for just the third time in 2013-14.
Hard Nose Hockey: This weekend, the Cyclones will face an opponent who isn't afraid to spend time in the "sin bin." The Nailers rank in the top three among Eastern Conference teams in penalty minutes. The Cyclones, on the other hand, have been penalized less than any other team (11.36 PIM/game)
Quick Starters: The Cyclones have ramped up the offense early on in games. Their 75 first period goals are the second most of any ECHL team this season while their 83 middle period markers are tied for the league-lead.
