Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces, proud ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League, announced that veteran forward Peter Sivak has been named recipient of the 2013-14 ECHL Sportsmanship Award in a vote by the league's coaches, broadcasters, media relations personnel and members of the media.
The award is presented annually to the player who is judged to have exhibited the best sportsmanship combined with a high standard of playing ability.
Sivak, 32, adds to his collection of honors for 2013-14 after being named to the All-ECHL First Team yesterday. He leads the ECHL with a +46 rating, highest in league history 2007-08 when Chad Starling of Cincinnati finished at +48 (tied for 4th, all-time).
The native of Cheb, Czech Republic is second in league scoring with 79 points and in assists (50) while tied for second with 29 goals. Sivak has only been issued 10 penalty minutes in 65 games this season.
Sivak has collected 135 points (62g-73a) in 129 career ECHL games with the Aces and San Francisco Bulls with only 38 penalty minutes. He has also added five points (4g-1a) in 12 career AHL games with Abbotsford and Worcester.
He also has 576 career games of experience in the Slovakian and Czech Extraliga leagues with 232 points.
Sivak is the second Aces player to earn the ECHL Sportsmanship Award, joining center Brian Swanson (2010-11).
The Aces return to play tonight at 5:05 p.m. (KFQD) against the Colorado Eagles at Budweiser Events Center. Season tickets are on sale now. For more information, please contact the Aces at 907.258.2237 or by visiting their official Facebook page at www.facebook.com/alaskaaceshockey.
