
Dallas Wins The Battle Of The Stars 5-1 Over Texas

Cedar Park, TX - The Dallas Stars defeated the Texas Stars 5-1 in the "Bud Light Battle of the Stars" exhibition game on Wednesday night at Cedar Park Center. A near capacity crowd of 6,323 saw Dallas Stars' forward James Neal score twice to lead the NHL club to victory over its AHL Affiliate. Dallas forwards Toby Peterson, Mike Ribeiro and Fabian Brunnstrom all scored in the win. Forward Perttu Lindgren scored the lone goal for the Texas Stars in the defeat. Goalie Marty Turco made 12 saves, stopping every shot he faced and picking up the win in 32:50 of work. Texas goalie Alex Auld stopped 14 of 17 in the loss. The Texas Stars begin their Inaugural season on Friday night in San Antonio at 7:00 pm.
Dallas struck with a pair of goals in the opening period. Forward Toby Peterson ripped a slapshot past Texas goalie Alex Auld just 7:56 into the game for the 1-0 Dallas lead. With 3:31 left on the clock, Dallas doubled the lead to 2-0 after James Neal redirected a Brad Richards shot from the point for a power-play goal.
Dallas extended the lead to 3-0 in the second period after a one-timer by Mike Ribeiro beat Auld for the score. Defenseman Jeff Woywitka set up the score with a pass from the corner to the slot. Texas scored its lone goal with just over five minutes remaining in the middle frame. Center Perttu Lindgren tipped a Sergei Korostin shot, deflecting the puck past Dallas goalie Brent Krahn and trimming the Dallas lead to 3-1.
The NHL Stars put the game away in the third period with a pair of early goals. Winger Fabian Brunnstrom beat Matt Climie with a wrist shot just 41-seconds into the final period for a 4-1 Dallas lead. James Neal netted his second goal of the night, beating Climie at 2:58 for the 5-1 final score.
The Stars begin their Inaugural season on Friday, October 2nd at the AT&T Center in San Antonio against the Rampage at 7:00 pm. Texas will host its first regular season game in team history in a rematch with San Antonio at 7:00 pm on Saturday, October 3rd at Cedar Park Center.
