
Columbus Assigns Left Wing Alexandre Picard and Defenseman Mathieu Roy

Syracuse, NY (September 30, 2009) - The Syracuse Crunch announced that the Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned left wing Alexandre Picard and defenseman Mathieu Roy to the Crunch. In addition, the Blue Jackets have signed defensemen David Liffiton and Dylan Reese each to two-way, NHL-American Hockey League contracts.
Picard, who turns 24 on October 9, appeared in 49 games for the Crunch last season, recording 22 goals, 10 assists and 107 penalty minutes. His 22 goals were tied for the team lead, with 20 coming in his final 22 games. He also appeared in 15 games with the Blue Jackets last year, notching one assist and 26 penalty minutes. A native of Les Saules, Quebec, Picard was selected by Columbus in the first round, eighth overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
Roy, 26, appeared in 59 games for Springfield last season, notching two goals, 15 assists and 120 penalty minutes. A native of St-Georges, Quebec, Roy was selected by Edmonton in the seventh round, 215th overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He was signed as a free agent by Columbus on July 14, 2009.
Liffiton, who turns 25 on October 18, appeared in 25 games with Esbjerg IK (Denmark) last season, compiling three goals, six assists and 84 penalty minutes. Liffiton spent parts of four seasons with the New York Rangers organization from 2004-08. During that span, he skated in 176 games with the Rangers' AHL affiliate in Hartford, registering four goals, 21 assists and 473 penalty minutes. A native of Windsor, Ontario, Liffiton was originally selected by the Colorado Avalanche in the second round, 63rd overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
Reese, 25, appeared in 75 games for San Antonio last season, tallying one goal, 27 assists and 64 penalty minutes. Before turning pro, Reese spent four years at Harvard (ECAC) appearing in 121 games, recording 21 goals, 40 assists and 124 penalty minutes. A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Reese was originally selected by the New York Rangers in the seventh round, 209th overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
The Crunch open their 16th AHL season on Saturday, October 3 in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Syracuse opens up at home the following weekend when they face Adirondack on Saturday, October 10.
