Hickory Crawdads News Release

HICKORY, NC - The Hickory Crawdads fell to the Augusta GreenJackets, 10-1, before 1,991 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Thursday night.

The GreenJackets (7-14) struck for three quick runs against RHP Carlos Melo (L, 2-2) in the first two frames, moving in front, 3-0, early. RF Ryan Scoma did the damage in the first inning with a two-run homer, before 2B Carlos Willoughby plated one with an RBI single in the second.

Melo posted a scoreless frame in the third inning, but Augusta tacked on another run to the lead in the fourth. After three walks loaded the bases with only one out, DH Raynor Campbell lofted a sacrifice fly to left field, making it 4-0.

RHP Randol Rojas took over on the mound for the Crawdads (14-7) and dealt scoreless fifth and sixth innings, but the GreenJackets doubled their lead with four tallies in the seventh, moving ahead, 8-0. A two-run double by Scoma plated a pair, followed by RBI doubles from LF Devin Harris and C Jeff Arnold later in the inning.

After RHP Austin Fleet (W, 2-2) kept the 'Dads off the board through the first six innings, Hickory finally struck against him with a solo bomb by C Tomas Telis to lead off the seventh. Fleet gave way to LHP Gaspar Santiago, who got out of the rest of the inning in scoreless fashion, before LHP Ryan Bradley closed the game with two scoreless innings.

Augusta capped the scoring with a two-run homer by Campbell in the eighth, accounting for the 10-1 final score.
