Hickory Crawdads News Release
Hickory, NC - The Crawdads defeated the Hagerstown Suns 7-3 on Wednesday afternoon to complete a three-game sweep over the Suns.
The 'Dads wasted no time getting the scoring started. Miguel Aparicio singled in the bottom of the first to set things up for Jax Biggers. Biggers delivered a two-run shot, his first homerun as a Crawdad.
The Suns got a run back in the top of the second but still trailed the 'Dads 2-1.
Pedro Gonzalez hit a solo homerun to left to push the lead back to two runs. The homerun was the fourteenth of the season for Gonzalez, who also homered in last night's game.
Hagerstown collected another run in the top of the third but were unable to get any more across off the Crawdads starter Tyree Thompson. Thompson pitched five innings, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks. He struck out three.
The Suns tied the game at three in the top of the seventh with a run off reliever Grant Anderson.
The 'Dads retook the lead in the bottom of the eighth with four runs. Aparicio collected his second hit of the afternoon to lead off the inning. Tyreque Reed hit a double to left to bring Aparicio in to score. Sherten Apostel followed up with a single to right that brought in Reed. Gonzalez singled to advance Apostel to second. Matt Whatley hit his eighth double of the year to score Apostel and Gonzalez and give the Crawdads a 7-3 lead.
On Tuesday the Frans will host a matchup between the USA National Collegiate Team and the Cuban National Team. The game will be just the second time that Team USA has played in Hickory and the first that the Cuban team has come to town. The night will end with a bang, as the 'Dads will shoot off the first of three the week's firework shows. The 'Dads will also have fireworks following the game on July 4thand on Friday, July 5th.
