Next Series Please; Asheville Leaves Augusta Winless

June 26, 2019 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Asheville Tourists News Release

NORTH AUGUSTA - The Asheville Tourists' first ever trip to SRP Park was not a pleasant one. Asheville did not visit the new home of the Augusta GreenJackets in 2018 and they were swept in their first series here in 2019. The GreenJackets capped off their series sweep with a 6-1 final score on Wednesday night.

For the third straight game the Tourists fell behind by multiple runs in the first inning. On this occasion the GreenJackets plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning on only two hits. Asheville's offense was held in check for the third straight games as well. The Tourists lone run came on a Kyle Datres lead-off Home Run in the top of the fourth.

Asheville was held to a total of four hits for the second game in a row; they had five hits on Monday. Coco Montes doubled in the second inning, Terrin Vavra legged out an infield single in the fifth, and Willie MacIver led off the seventh with a single to centerfield.

The Tourists had a good scoring opportunity in the fifth when a pair of walks coupled with Vavra's base-hit loaded the bases with one out. The score was 3-1 at the time. However, a pair of strikeouts ended the threat. Augusta then scored an additional three runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

With the GreenJackets in the rear-view mirror the Tourists can turn their attention to the Charleston RiverDogs whom they open up a four-game series with on Thursday night. Asheville is 7-4 this season against the RiverDogs and have a chance to turn the tables with the back end of their seven-game road trip still to come.
