Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
TROY, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones netted a pair of goals in the first two and a half minutes of their game Sunday night at Hobart Arena and held on for a 3-2 win over the Dayton Bombers. Jason Deitsch and Mathieu Aubin each added a goal and an assist in the victory. Cedrick Desjardins stopped 26 shots to take his 21st victory for Cincinnati.
The Cyclones raced to a 2-0 lead early in the first period, as Jean-Michel Daoust scored on the opening shift of the contest-just 35 seconds into the game, his 27th goal of the campaign. Mathieu Aubin played a puck in the left half of the Cincinnati defensive zone and fired a pass ahead to a streaking Daoust, who hammered home his score from the right faceoff circle.
Cincinnati extended the lead at 2:27, when Jason Deitsch rifled home his 25th goal of the season. Deitsch, the Cincinnati native, took a pass from Chad Starling through the Dayton defense and netted the shorthanded goal-his second in the season series against the Bombers.
Dayton netted a pair of shorthanded goals in the second period, but Cincinnati escaped the frame with a one goal lead. The bombers picked up the first score of the middle frame, when Brent Walton tallied his 21st goal of the season while the club was short a man.
Cyclones rookie Aubin picked up his tenth goal of the season on a tic-tac-toe passing sequence from Daoust and Deitsch. The score gave the Cyclones a 3-1 edge.
Dayton had a breakaway shorthanded goal from Yannick Tifu close the gap to 3-2 in the final minute of the second period. Walton had the assist on the goal that was scored at 19:06.
There was no scoring in the third period and Dayton outshot Cincinnati in the period, 8-4, and 28-16, for the game.
The Cyclones are now 34-23-3-2, leaders of the North Division lead by five points over Dayton and Toledo. Dayton is 31-22-1-5 on the season. The Cyclones host Wheeling at U.S. Bank Arena, Tuesday night (March 20) at 7:30pm.
