
Gladiators Beat Everblades, 4-3 in Shootout

Mike Vigilante posted a seventh round shootout goal to help the Gwinnett Gladiators past the Florida Everblades 4-3 on Sunday afternoon on the Your Best Rate Financial Home Ice at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. With the win, the Gladiators improve to 38-19-7 on the year and move into sole possession of first place in the ECHL's South Division.
Florida opened the scoring at the 7:37 mark of the first period as Brad Zancanaro picked up a loose puck in the right wing circle and ripped a snap shot past Gladiators netminder Dan Turple to give the Everblades a 1-0 lead. Franklin MacDonald and Jarret Lukin posted the assists on the goal for the Everblades.
Florida pushed their lead to 2-0 at the 9:50 mark of the second period on the power play. Vince Bellissimo ripped a slap shot past Turple from the right wing circle for the marker. Derek Damon and Lukin collected the assists on the goal for the Everblades.
Gwinnett got back into the game in the third period rattling of the next two goals to tie the game at two. Jon Awe ripped a one-time slap shot past Florida netminder Craig Kowalski at the 6:56 mark of the third period to get the Gladiators within a goal. Brad Schell collected an assist on the goal for Gwinnett.
Jim Jackson's 12th goal of the season tied the game at two. Jackson walked into the Florida zone and ripped a slap shot over the shoulder of Kowalski for the marker at the 7:23 mark of the third period. Mike Vigilante and Andy Contois posted the assists on the goal for the Gladiators.
Gwinnett took a 3-2 lead at the 9:20 mark of the third period as Contois flew end-to-end and beat Kowalski for the marker. Blue Bennefield and Vigilante collected the assists as they hooked up to push the puck up ice to set up the marker.
Florida tied the game back up, this time at three, as Damon ripped a snap shot past Turple at the 11:46 mark of the third period. John Lehun and Franklin MacDonald posted the assists on the goal sending the game to overtime.
Turple finished with 32 saves in the win for the Gladiators while posting one power play goal on six chances in the win. Florida went 1-for-4 on the power play in the loss.
