Tough weekend for Ice Pilots ends in 3-2 loss.

The Pensacola Ice Pilots surrendered two goals in the first 1:43 of the third period and dropped a 3-2 decision to the South Carolina Stingrays on Sunday afternoon at North Charleston Coliseum.

The loss spoiled the debut of goaltender Adam Garagosian in his first professional start who played very well. The Ice Pilots had a 2-1 lead heading into the third period and for just the fourth time this season, couldn't protect an advantage in the final 20 minutes. The Stingrays scored a goal 12 seconds into the third period to tie the game 2-2 and then took the lead at 1:55 on a shot from rookie Torrie Morin. The Ice Pilots had some chances in the third period including a great play by David Wrigley but his shot as denied by Davis Parley. The Ice Pilots pulled their goaltender in the final minute of play but couldn't get the equalizer. In the opening period, the Ice Pilots and the South Carolina Stingrays played pretty tight checking hockey. The Stingrays had the better scoring chances even though Rob Rankin had a couple of great shots on goal that was turned aside by Davis Parley. In the second period the Ice Pilots jumped out to a 1-0 lead when David Wrigley notched his third goal in his last two games. His powerplay goal was a great shot from the face-off circle. Rob Rankin and Jesse Baraniuk earned assists on the play. After the Stingrays tied the game 1-1 just after the Ice Pilots killed off a penalty. The Ice Pilots would take the lead on a similar occurrence as after a penalty kill, Sergei Ogorodnikov would score on a two on one play and it was 2-1 after 40 minutes.
