Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
KALAMAZOO, Michigan - John McFarland's third round shootout offering was enough to propel the Cincinnati Cyclones (6-0-0-0) past the Kalamazoo Wings (1-3-0-1) by a 5-4 final score in front of 2,044 at Wings Stadium on Sunday afternoon. It was the first time in club history that the Cyclones won their first six games of a season.
Josh McFadden put the Cyclones up 1-0 when he sniped home a power play goal at 9:06, giving the team their fourth man-advantage goal in two games. But Kalamazoo would respond at 17:39 on a power play of their own as Sam Ftorek caught a pass in the left circle and blasted home the game-tying strike past Rob Madore (W, 32 saves, 5-0-0-0). The teams would remain deadlocked at the end of 20 minutes.
Just 54 seconds into the middle stanza, Kalamazoo's Eric Kattelus picked off an outlet pass and buried his third goal of the season to give the Wings a 2-1 lead. The Cyclones would rally back, however, with goals from Wade Megan and Philippe Lefebvre coming just 1:25 apart to regain the advantage at 3-2. Megan also earned an assist on the third goal, giving him three consecutive multi-point games and a six-game "helper" streak. The former Boston University product wasn't done; Megan added his second goal of the contest at 17:51 to extend Cincinnati's cushion to 4-2 at the second intermission.
The Wings clawed their way back to within a goal on a power play marker by Kattelus at 3:03 of the third period, making it a 4-3 game. Then, with 1:36 left in regulation, Yanni Gourde crashed the net and forced home the game-tying tally and sent the game into overtime. After five minutes of scoreless hockey, a shootout proved necessary to decide the contest. Following conversions from both teams in round 2, John McFarland potted the go-ahead goal in round 3. And as Madore denied back-to-back Wings offerings, the Cyclones sealed the 5-4 win - extending their ECHL-high winning streak to six games.
After a week of practice, the Cyclones will close out their five-game road trip on Friday night as they once again meet the Kalamazoo Wings at 7:30pm. Fans can hear all the action of the game on the Cyclones Radio Network (CyclonesHockey.com, America One, Cyclones Mobile App) beginning at 7:00pm and WATCH live at Game Time Sports Bar and Grill.
The Cyclones will return to the ice at U.S. Bank Arena on Saturday, November 9 when they play host to the Fort Wayne Komets at 7:30pm. The game will also be the first Kids Eat FREE night of the year, with fans ages 2-12 receiving a FREE meal courtesy of John Morrell. Tickets are on sale now!
