Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Laurent Brossoit recorded his second straight 16-save shutout and Peter Sivak had a goal with two assists to lift the Alaska Aces to a 4-0 win over the Bakersfield Condors before 3,336 fans at Sullivan Arena on Sunday.
The Aces boosted their winning streak to seven games, the longest since the 2012-13 season (March). Sivak, closing the week with ten points in the three games against the Condors, had a key second period goal to break a scoreless tie.
The Aces also won their ninth straight game against Bakersfield, dating back to the 2011-12 season. They finished the weekend outscoring Bakersfield 15-3 in the three games.
Sivak's breakaway goal in the second period finished a brilliant feed by Evan Trupp through the Bakersfield defense, with 15:41 remaining for his fifth goal.
Brossoit, making nine saves in the first period, earned a key save on Tyler Brenner early in the third period to keep the lead intact. The Aces followed by breaking the game open with three goals in a span of 6:46.
Brendan Connolly successfully deflected Nick Mazzolini's shot from the blueline past Karpowich at 6:35 for a 2-0 edge. On the next shift and just 15 seconds, Evan Trupp caught the Bakersfield defense out of position and wired a wrist shot past Karpowich from the right circle.
Kane Lafranchise put the game away with his first goal of the season, on the power play, for a 4-0 cushion with 6:39 left.
Karpowich, playing on his third straight game with an emergency backup behind him, took the loss on 22 saves.
NOTES: Scratches for the Aces included Corey Syvret, Jordan Kremyr, Sean Curry, Shawn Skelly, Zach Davies and David Eddy ... Brossoit's back to back shutouts were the first by the Aces since Oct. 29-30, 2010 (Gerald Coleman and Adam Courchaine at Las Vegas and Bakersfield) ... the Aces outshot Bakersfield 26-16.
