
Stingrays Sweep Weekend Series against Gladiators with 4-2 Win

Duluth, GA - Forwards Peter Boyd and Jordan Owens each scored two goals and forward Igor Gongalsky added three assists to guide the South Carolina Stingrays (7-0-0-1) over the Gwinnett Gladiators (1-7-0-0) 4-2 Sunday afternoon at The Arena at Gwinnett Center. The win sends the Stingrays' season-opening unbeaten streak to eight games and winning streak to seven contests.
Gladiators forward Maxime Legault started the scoring 2:29 into the first period slipping a shot under the right arm of Stingrays goaltender Adam Morrison (W, 16 saves on 18 shots) with a wrist shot from the right-wing circle. Forwards Josh Currie and Jeremie Malouin picked up assists.
In the second period, forward Kurtis Bartliff made it a 2-0 Gladiators lead unassisted at 2:14 knocking in a wraparound goal off the near post. The Stingrays jumped on the scoreboard at 7:54 with a tally from Boyd lifting a shot over the glove of Gladiators netminder Chris Rawlings (L, 29 saves on 33 shots) from the top of the crease. Gongalsky added the lone assist. Owens tied the contest moments later with a power-play marker at 14:00 off a blast from the left-wing point with help from Gongalsky and defenseman Kevin Quick .
Boyd put the Stingrays on top with his second goal of the afternoon at 2:19 of the final frame from forward Andrew Cherniwchan . Owens gave the Stingrays a two-goal lead knocking in a rebound off the pads of Rawlings at 8:28 with assists going to Gongalsky and defenseman Ryan Grimshaw . The Stingrays finished the game 1-for-3 on the power play while the Gladiators went 0-for-2.
