Idaho Steelheads News Release

Boise, ID - One night after leaving the ice after a tough, 4-3 shootout loss to the Ontario Reign, the Idaho Steelheads rallied in the third period, turning the tables on the Reign in a 4-3 shootout victory at CenturyLink Arena on Saturday night.

The Steelheads were a perfect 3-for-3 in the shootout (Tyler Gron, Mitch Wahl, William Rapuzzi) while Idaho's Pat Nagle denied three of four Ontario shooters to secure the win for the home team in front of 3,153 fans.

Ontario scored first on a pin-point shot off the stick of Brett Beebe at 5:53 of the first, his first professional goal just under the crossbar to give the Reign a 1-0 lead. Idaho would answer quickly on the power play as Rapuzzi's pass from the left-wing goal line found Tommy Grant all alone at the bottom of the right circle for a quick one-timer, Grant's third goal of the season, at 7:25 of the first to even the score at one. A Danny Dries goal at 16:04 of the period gave the Reign a 2-1 lead after twenty minutes of play.

Idaho tied it quickly in the second on Taylor Vause's wrist shot on a two-on-one rush at 3:19 of the period, with Etienne Boutet picking up his first professional point with the assist on Vause's fourth goal of the season. Ontario would re-take the lead on the power play late in the second, though, when JT Barnett weaved through Idaho's defense, banged a shot off Nagle, and Mike Towns was there to clean up the rebound at 18:32 to give the Reign a 3-2 lead going into the third.

Idaho would get the equalizer on the man-advantage at 10:59 of the third when a loose puck was batted home in a goal-mouth scrum near the left post. Wahl was credited with his second of the season, assisted by Grant, to tie the game at 3-3. Idaho nearly won it in overtime on a line rush as defenseman Carl Sneep snuck up the left wing to join the play, but Niederberger denied the shot to force the shootout.

Gron started the shootout for Idaho with a nifty backhand-to-forehand goal before Nagle denied Dan DaSilva, putting Idaho (3-2-1) on its way to victory.

Nagle stopped 37 of 40 during live play and three of four in the shootout to earn the win. Niederberger took the loss, allowing three goals on 27 shots in live play and all three shootout shooters to score.

Idaho's power-play unit went 2-5 Saturday night. The Steelheads are now six for ten (60%) on the power play at home this season. All three of Idaho's home games have gone to overtime or a shootout.
