Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
DAYTON - Cincinnati Cyclones rookie David Desharnais had a goal and two assists and goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris stopped a season-high 33 shots in a 5-1 win over Dayton on Tuesday. The win extends Cincinnati's unbeaten streak to four games (3-0-1).
The Cyclones exploded for three first period goals, as Barret Ehgoetz netted his second goal of the season, unassisted, at 3:10. The lead opened up to 2-0, when rookie center David Desharnais picked up his fourth score of the season at 6:25, as Jean-Michel Daoust and Gerard Miller had the assists.
Cincinnati closed the period with the final goal of the frame, as defenseman Conrad Martin picked up his first goal of the season at 14:06, with Desharnais adding the assist. Martin became the fifth Cincinnati defenseman to collect a goal this season.
The first period ended with the Cyclones holding a 10-6 edge in shots on goal.
There was no scoring in the second period, but there was one highlight. Cyclones forward Mathieu Aubin delivered a check in the right corner of the Dayton defense that shattered a pane of plexiglass that caused an 18 minute delay in the game. The shots in the middle period favored the Bombers, 14-6.
Cincinnati iced the game 31 seconds into the third period, when Aubin scored a five-on-three power play goal from Desharnais and Bryan Schmidt to extend the lead to 4-0. Rookie Tom Sawatzke spoiled the shutout bid with a power play goal at 4:22. Daoust closed the scoring for Cincinnati at 8:13 from Ehgoetz.
With the victory, the Cyclones moved into second place in the North Division with a 7-3-1 record, one point behind Reading. Dayton drops to 4-4-2 on the year and remains tied for fifth place in the division.
The Cyclones return to U.S. Bank Arena tomorrow (Nov. 14) for a 7:30pm clash with Trenton. The highlight of the week comes on Friday (Nov. 16), when Wheeling rolls in for Rich Franklin Night at 7:30pm.
