Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

The Salmon Kings came into tonight's game looking to take two of the three games against Utah during this series. Victoria accomplished that goal with a 1-0 victory.

The first period started with a lot of open ice as both teams had numerous scoring opportunities. The hero of Saturday night's game for the Kings', goaltender Julien Ellis, once again stood tall in-between the Victoria pipes. Equal to the task was Utah goalie Mike Mole as the two teams ended the first period in a 0-0 tie.

The second period saw much of the same. Great end-to-end action with both goaltenders making fantastic saves to keep the game at 0-0. Ellis made a tremendous kick save on a 2-on-1 when the Grizzlies Keith Johnson blasted a shot from the right face-off dot. Mole denied Kiel McLeod on a breakaway opportunity for his best stop of the period. It stayed 0-0 at the end of forty minutes.

The third period saw chances at both ends, but the Salmon Kings were finally able to get on the board. Milan Gajic had the puck behind the Grizzlies net and worked it over to Kevin Estrada in the left corner. Estrada then found a wide open Ash Goldie in the slot who put it behind Mole for a 1-0 Salmon Kings lead. The Kings played solid team defense the rest of the way and took the game 1-0. Julien Ellis recorded his second professional shutout and first of the season stopping all 24 shots that came his way.

The Kings outshot Utah 29-24. The Kings were 0-5 on the power play and Utah went 0-4. The Salmon Kings retake first place in the West Division with the win and sport a 7-3 record one point ahead of Alaska, and are tied with Las Vegas for top spot in the National Conference with 14 points.
