Lake Erie Crushers News Release
Ypsilanti, MI - The Lake Erie Crushers jumped out to a 5-0 lead over the Midwest Sliders and were able to hold off several rallies to take game one of a doubleheader 6-4 on Tuesday afternoon.
Lake Erie was led by third baseman Andrew Davis who hit a pair of solo home runs. He now has nine homers and 35 RBI on the season. Davis' blasts combined with RBI groundouts by Drew Saylor and Wayne Bond, and a balk that scored Tim Binkoski, to put the Crushers ahead 5-0 in the top of the fourth inning.
Midwest would come back against Kevin Skogley as Gilberto Zayas hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Sliders tacked on two more in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Jimmy Baker and an RBI single by Robbie Knapp to pull to within a run.
The Crushers would pick up an insurance run in the sixth inning as Eddie Tisdale hit an infield single that scored pinch runner Jesse Gibson. Shannon Sprouse pitched the final two innings in relief to pick up his second save of the season. Skogley allowed four runs on nine hits with six strikeouts to improve to 2-1 on the year.
The two teams will play game two of the doubleheader this evening at Oestrike Stadium in Ypsilanti as Brad Davidson will get the start for Lake Erie against Kyle Kearcher.
The Lake Erie Crushers are the newest expansion team in the Frontier League, an independent professional league with 12 teams throughout the Midwest. The team plays its home games at All Pro Freight Stadium, the new 5,000 capacity ballpark located at the intersection of I-90 and Route 611 in Avon. Season tickets and Mini-plans are on sale now!
