Evansville Otters News Release
June 30, 2009, Evansville, IN - What a difference 24 hours can make. One night after scoring 15 runs on 19 hits, the Otters offense was nowhere to be found in a 5-1 loss to the River City Rascals Tuesday at Bosse Field. Evansville stranded 14 runners in the game, 10 in scoring position. Rascal's starter Tyler Musselwhite walked eight batters in 3.1 innings, but the Otters could not get the clutch hit. They twice left the bases loaded.
The Otters lone run came in the fourth inning when Matt Pulley hit a leadoff double. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, Pulley came in to score on Jeremy Strack's sacrifice fly. The game was tied at 1-1 entering the eighth inning. Otter's starter Kai Tuomi, brilliant through seven innings, faced four batters and did not record an out. Jo Jo Batten, Chris Colton, and Scott Robinson singled before Joe Billick walked. One batter later, Kevin Reynolds doubled off of reliever Nick Utley. All told, four runs came across, resulting in a 5-1 final.
Reliever Josh Lowey (1-0) picked up the win, tossing 3.2 innings of scoreless relief. Kai Tuomi (1-2) took the loss, allowing five earned runs in 7.0+ innings. The three game series resumes Wednesday at 7:05pm CDT.
