Crushers Complete Sweep in Double-Header
June 30, 2009 - Frontier League (FL)
Lake Erie Crushers News Release
Ypsilanti, MI - The Lake Erie Crushers continued their mastery of the Midwest Sliders as they captured game two of their doubleheader by the final of 3-1 at Oestrike Stadium. The Crushers are now 5-0 against Midwest this season.
It would be the Sliders who would get on the board first against Lake Erie as Jimmy Baker slammed a solo homer to left off of Brad Davidson in the first inning. But that would turn out to be the only run of the game for Midwest, as Davidson tossed five commanding innings, allowing the lone run on three hits with one strikeout.
Lake Erie's offense would finally come to life in the fifth inning as Gordon Gronkowski led off with his eighth homer of the year. Nick Maragas hit an RBI single to plate Tim Binkoski and give the Crushers their first lead of the game. Drew Saylor would tack on a sacrifice fly to give Lake Erie a 3-1 advantage.
Jacinto Gonell continued his quality work out of the bullpen as the right-hander tossed two scoreless innings to pick up his seventh save of the season.
The two teams will wrap up their three-games-in-two-day series on Wednesday night at 7:05 in Ypsilanti. Right-hander Jorge Charry will make his debut for the Crushers on the mound.
