Rockford RiverHawks News Release
LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford RiverHawks will offer one lucky fan to chance to play with the legends of baseball.
The RiverHawks announced on Tuesday that they are holding an online auction for one roster spot for the Jim Beam Cubs/White Sox Legends Game, scheduled for 6 p.m. July 14. Fans can visit the team website for a link to the auction.
The RiverHawks will host the event as part of their two-day Frontier League All-Star celebration. Tickets, which include admission to that night's All-Star Home Run Derby, are $15 for infield and home-plate box seats, $10 for outfield box. A two-day pass, which includes admission to the July 15 Frontier League All-Star Game, is $25, $20 for outfield box. Tickets for all All-Star events are available at the stadium box office, by calling (815) 885-BALL, or by online purchase at the team website.
Former Cub Bob Dernier and Steve Trout, who pitched for both Chicago teams, will be the team captains. The Cubs' roster includes Warren Brusstar, Jody Davis, Randy Hundley, Ed Lynch, Keith Moreland, Tim Stoddard and former batting champion Willie Wilson. The roster for the Sox is scheduled to include 1983 American League Rookie of the Year Ron Kittle, Carlos May, Don Pall, Greg Pryor and Dan Pasqua.
The winning bidder will receive not only a roster spot on the fan's choice of team, but will also be involved in All-Star festivities that include the banquet, an autographed jersey and four tickets to each night's events.
"It's the ultimate fan experience," RiverHawks general manager Josh Olerud said. "It's the experience of a lifetime."
The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 17th season this summer.
